Safety professionals are navigating increasing data volumes as OHS has become more digitized. However, while all organisations collect safety data, many do not fully realise the potential of this information at their disposal. Advancements in technology, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, can analyze large amounts of safety data in real time, identify patterns and trends, and predict potential safety hazards, allowing for corrective actions to be taken to prevent accidents and injuries before they occur. This session will explore how to leverage technology and predictive analytics to maximize the value of data and take proactive measures to enhance worker safety.

Shilo has overseen HSE operations on projects ranging from $1 Million to over $1 Billion dollars throughout Canada. It’s this experience that helped him develop a deep understanding of HSE management systems and how “people” are the key to their success.
Only after Shilo cut his teeth in the field did he achieve his Juris Doctorate and drove himself to becoming a successful lawyer in labor and employment law with a specialty in occupational health and safety. With clients ranging from fortune 100 companies to “ma and pa” operations, these experiences refined his technical OHS knowledge to a razor sharp edge.
Shilo also loves to share and learn from others. Shilo does this through teaching, writing, volunteering and lecturing. Shilo has worked with some of the most prestigious labour, employment and health & safety organizations across Canada – helping to share his expertise and learning from a diverse group of individuals. People see his passion for OHS and it’s hard to ignore…it’s even infectious!
Ergonomic risk has not always been taken seriously in the workplace, but has been growing in importance within OHS departments, as a result of an aging workforce, the increased number of hybrid and remote workers, the rise of musculoskeletal disorders and the recognition that poorly designed workspaces and processes are a common cause of workplace injury and mental distress. This session will examine recent developments in workplace ergonomics and the role of OHS leaders in utilizing these latest tools and processes in their safety programs to establish ergonomic best practices.

I aspire to be a catalyst for advancement in our industry.
In addition to my work experience, I have a master’s degree is Safety, Risk, and Reliability which has given me a strong foundation in key risk principles. I also had the honor of serving on the board of directors for WCB Alberta which provided me with invaluable insights to strategic operations.
